I WANT MY MTV

My Super Sweet 16.  Real World/Road Rules Challenge #43.  Date My [fill in the blank].

If you’ve happened to flip on MTV within the past year, you probably didn’t get a chance to hear any sort of actual music.

The station’s once-acclaimed format (music-oriented programming) has shifted into an odd mish-mash of…well…I don’t even know how to describe the things that I’ve seen broadcast lately.

But, the MTV that I once knew and loved has returned, in the form of MTVMusic.com.

MTV Music is an interactive video streaming site, with a huge collection of high-quality music videos. Tons (and I mean TONS) of musical acts, from Guns N’ Roses to Rihanna to bands you’ve never even heard of, are featured on the site.

Like Hulu, users are given the ability to comment and rate the videos, opening a whole new line of dialog about Toto’s 1982 hit “Africa”. The videos can also be embedded into blogs, social networks, and forums across the web without fear of copyright infringement.  Take that, YouTube.

Design-wise, the site incredibly straight-forward and clean. Its ads are unobtrusive (for now), and the focus is truly on the music. I’ve gotta say it….nice work, MTV!

And now, for your viewing pleasure, the song that started it all:
