Just Rewards (Baltimore Business Journal)
The punch card reward program might still be around, but many hotels and restaurants have turned to free social networks to reward frequent customers. Social networks like Foursquare and GoWalla allow customers to check in at restaurants and hotels to earn badges or mayorships for frequent visits.
MGH has set up Facebook and Twitter accounts for its restaurant clients - Miss Shirley's, Roland Park Bagel Co. and S'ghetti Eddies - and most recently, Foursquare. Guests who check in on Foursquare the most at Miss Shirley's and earn the mayorship can jump to the front of the line, which is usually a 90 minute wait on weekends. Ryan Goff, MGH VP, Director of Social Media Marketing, notes that "What makes reward plans so attractive is that the programs are free. Getting started with Foursquare takes time to maintain for businesses...but it's more of what they (restaurants) are used to. They can put a real return on investment to their efforts. "
