QR Decode (Instore Magazine)

QR codes, two-dimensional matrix barcode, have actually been around for a while - invented in Japan in 1994. However, marketers in the United States and Europe are just warming up to the low-cost technology. This feature article discusses the rise of the QR code in the western world, and how retailer jewelers are adding them into their marketing mix.

The article mentions the holiday QR code campaign MGH developed for Smyth Jewelers, "15 Deals, 15 Days," which featured a massive 400-square-foot QR code outside of Smyth Jewelers' flagship store and two smaller signs at mall locations. The QR codes were used to direct customers to different discounts and prize offerings over the 15-day period.

MGH's Social Media Marketing Director Ryan Goff discussed the campaign, saying "During the holiday season, so many businesses have deals, but none really stand out. This was something for people to talk about."

Hello, we're MGH! A Baltimore, Maryland advertising agency, public relations firm, interactive development company, word of mouth agency, guerilla marketing firm, design agency, viral marketing firm, and social media marketing company, all rolled into one. It's like a bunch of agencies, but that takes a while to say. So we simply call what we do "modern marketing." It means being able to employ every available communications medium to sell, promote, and otherwise market our clients – whether they are in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., or Philadelphia. We've been at it since 1995 with great success. Take a look.
